What happened in 2012?
- The Queen celebrated her diamond jubilee marking exactly 60 years to the day when she took the throne in 1952.
- Pop legend Whitney Houston was found dead in a hotel bathtub in Beverley Hills in February. Aged 48, she had accidentally drowned
- Britain took to the world stage in the summer of 2012 to host the Olympic Games. An epic opening ceremony directed by Danny Boyle included appearances by the Queen – who faked jumping out of a helicopter with James Bond – as well as Rowan Atkinson and JK Rowling.
- A Pakistani schoolgirl sparked headlines around the world for being shot by the Taliban for campaigning for the right to go to school. Malala Yousafzai, 14, escaped death by a matter of inches – as the bullet entered just above her left eye and ran along her jaw -“grazing” her brain.
